The European Aquatics Championships in Paris came to a close on August 17 after a week of spectacular racing, record-breaking performances and breakthrough moments.

One of the biggest stars was 19-year-old Italy’s Sara Curtis, who broke the women’s 50m backstroke world record twice, finishing with an impressive 26.56 seconds. She collected six medals across the championships.

Home favourite Léon Marchand also delivered in front of the Paris crowd, winning gold in the 200m butterfly and 400m freestyle despite a thigh injury.

Germany’s Johannes Liebmann made history by setting a new world record in the 1500m freestyle with 14:26.79, becoming the first swimmer to break the 14:30 barrier.

With Italy leading the overall medal count and Great Britain topping the gold-medal table, Paris showcased a new generation of European swimming talent ready to make its mark on the world stage.
