Roberto Carlos talks about sport and Spain with COVID-19

Former Brazilian and Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos was interviewed by “Fox Sports” to give his impression of the pandemic that is plaguing the world, in relation to sport in general and in Spain.
Today ambassador of Real Madrid, Roberto Carlos lives in the Spanish capital with his wife and youngest daughter. In the Brazilian's opinion, the Spanish government was slow to take the necessary measures, and for that reason it had such a large number of deaths, that it became the second highest in the world, at a certain peak period of the virus.

"I think it took Spain a little while to understand the problem with this virus. It took a month with the children going to school, bars and open restaurants. I think this delay allowed the virus to spread. One of the ones who died was Lorenzo Sanz , who brought me to Real Madrid. And, like him, there are many elderly people dying. It is difficult to stay at home, but it is a necessary effort ”.

In addition, Roberto advised the Brazilian people to respect the quarantine. Even the ex-player has several children who live in the country.

“It is important to respect quarantine in Brazil. To understand that the virus is dangerous, it is strong, and thus to avoid repeating what happened here in Spain and Italy ".

The Brazilian also commented on the International Olympic Committee's decision to postpone the Japan Olympics from 2020 to 2021.
"Regarding the postponement, I think that the Olympic athlete needs the preparation and concentration necessary for a competition of this size. There would be no time for the athletes to reach their best level. Doing it is bullshit. With Coronavirus, we would not have the guarantee that the best would win or compete in the Olympics at their best level. I think the IOC did very well by postponing the Games, to increase the preparation time ".

Roberto Carlos also took the opportunity to criticize the Brazilian football calendar:

"How long have we discussed the Brazilian football calendar? Do you need a catastrophe to change? We are losing the quality of Brazilian games and players because we do not have an organized calendar. We have to shorten it. It is past time to change. Or the managers change that. or the players who get together and cover it for their own good. "

The countries of Europe and Asia are slowly resuming training and some championships, of course without an audience. However, Brazil has a much more delicate situation regarding the virus, since it did not have its peak of contagion and does not even know if it will be so soon. So today it is unthinkable to think about resuming training. However, behind the scenes, the federations do not stop meeting, debating whether or not they should return to the state or go directly to the Brazilian Championship, when football resumes.
